History of Cambridge Basketball

Cambridge Basketball is a not-for-profit organization.

James Baird started Cambridge Basketball in 1983. He ran the organization, mainly by himself, for the next 8 years. In 1991, Jim incorporated and became the first President of Cambridge Basketball. He stayed on as a member of the executive until 1997.

Coaching basketball has been a very large part of Jim’s life. Many valuable lessons have been learned under his leadership by players and coaches. Jim dedicated a great deal of his time and expertise to our sport.

In honour of Jim’s dedication, Cambridge Basketball created the James Baird Founders Award for Outstanding Commitment and Service to the Youth of Cambridge Basketball. Jim became the first recipient of this award in 1998. We now dedicate this annual award to those who follow in his footsteps and who endeavour to improve upon the foundations that he built for Cambridge Basketball.
